To date in the North Carolina primary, Republican ballot requests by Independents are surging to levels that far outpace those seen in 2020 and 2018.

This represents a HUGE shift in the party ballots as a % of total ballots between 2020 and 2022, with 63.25% of Independent voters pulling a GOP ballot in the 2022 primary compared to 32.64% who did so in 2020, and 51.28% in 2018.

The overall number of Democrat ballots requested in 2022 is lower than in 2018, and the % of total Republican ballot requests is higher than in 2018 (+8 increase in REP, -8 decrease for Dem). VRF captured this data with its new Absentee Ballot Tracker tool. VRF will be looking at Georgia turnout to see if this surge in Independents pulling GOP ballots continues.
